Windows by Geoff Case 10 km Virtual King of the Mountains Race
A total of sixty-five runners tackled the virtual Windows by Geoff Case 10 km sealed handicap. This race replicated the You Yangs King of the Mountain and around a third of the competitors had a go at the extremely tough actual course. Case was a world champion stair climber so it was fitting that he was the race sponsor. One of the club’s most prolific winners, Vin Gasper, who joined the club in 1973, took out the event from Jeff Walker who joined in the same year. Both have run over 880 club races. Catherine Allison finished third which moved her into second place in the season’s consistency award. Hayley Newman continued her fastest time domination while David Henderson was the fastest male for the first time.
Ten runners, including one newcomer, took the easier option in running the 5 km race, with Ken Walker winning from Annie Morton and Michael Orelli.
The club was saddened at the week end upon hearing of the passing of its esteemed life member, Mike McAvoy who distinguished himself in Australian Masters Athletics for over 25 years.
