Conditions were almost perfect for the 113 starters in the Portarlington Bakehouse 8 km handicap with a gentle breeze becoming more evident as the race progressed. It was second year runner, Jack Donovan, who was a very convincing winner from regular placegetters, Brendan O’Brien and Kevin McNulty. In only his eleventh start with the club, Donovan showed he had improved markedly from last season. Grant Simpson was the fastest male again with Suzanne Blackborrow taking out the fastest female honours in her first race after a break from the club.
